I burn my music onto DVD's and play it back that way. DVD's are cheap and if you fill all 6 DVD's with music, you will have almost 30gigs of easily disposable and changeable music on hand.

    COMAND Music register query
    Sunday 15th April 2012
    Help!!
I've just acquired a 2011 E350 with COMAND. I have been attempting to import some music into the music register without success.
Firstly, I inserted an original CD into the drive and could not access the copy music files facility, as it was not highlighted in the menu.
I then inserted six discs into the changer. One an original CD the others compilations I had made myself on my PC.
At last!! The copy files option was highlighted!! However, it read each disc in turn, at the end of each home recorded one it displayed a message saying there were no music files contained???!!!! And again refused to acknowledge the original disc. This is despite the Gracenote recognising the tracks on a couple of the home recorded discs.
How do I get the system to copy files??
The manual supplied with the car does not appear to be very informative in this respect...

I'm quite surprised by the absence of response to this query. Which leads me to suspect I may be experiencing a problem which may be unique to my particular car?
Could this be due to some malfunction of the Comand system?
I just can't understand why I cannot add music files to my music register.
    Anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks............

Have you tried copying all your music onto a USB stick as MP3's then use COMAND to copy from the USB to the music register? (assuming you have the USB port in the arm rest).
If you don't have the USB port, try copy the MP3's onto an SD card and load it into the slot on the CD player facia. Then transfer from SD to the music register.
Let us know how you get on. If unsuccessful I will do a sample load on mine at the weekend and tell you how I did it!

on my '12 plate c class with comand, it wont let you copy from the cd/dvd. You need to have the music on an mp3 player or somesuch and copy it that way, using the jacks under the centre arm rest. I have nwarly 700 songs and its not quite half way full. Very impressive
PS Give us a break: most of us work during the day!

As suggested you can't copy from CD (not on my 2011 E-Class with COMAND anyway), you need to do it by USB/SD card or similar - TBH I don't know as I've never used the hard drive to store music, but I know I can't do it from CD just like you can't!

Thanks to you all for your help. I only picked up the car on Friday and being new to Comand I've spent the little time I've had trying to familiarise myself with all aspects of it. Importing music onto the register is a priority and I became frustrated at it not allowing me to copy from CD.
I remember the salesman on handover informing me that the best way to import music was by burning MP3s onto a DVD. But there were so many things to get my head around...
I'm not aware of a USB port. I am aware of the PCMCIA port on the console. I am surprised at this on a '11 reg car and expected to find a USB input.
So, it looks like I'll most likely need to load music via an SD card using an adaptor?

Have you looked inside the armrest? If you have COMAND I am surprised you don't have the media interface to go with it (USB Port). Perhaps it wasn't spec'd. Also I thought there would be a dedicated SD slot as well. Post a close up picture of your console and I'll see if I can help.

    Thanks...
I don't have the car with me at the moment, so unable to post pics. There is no USB connector in the front armrest, just a dock for a phone. There is a slot in the centre console about the width of a credit card, which I understand from the handbook is for a PCMCIA card.
I understand that an adaptor for an SD card can be purchased. I take it this will be the only means of loading the music register?

USB connector is in the glovebox. The car *should* of come with a cable, but these quite often go 'missing' at the dealership.

I've had a look in the glovebox and there is only a 12v socket in there...
So, I presume my car hasn't been spec'd with USB?

On my 2009, there is a socket in the glovebox to which you can connect on of 3 cables usb/ipod and something else. you may have the socket but no cables, mine is located in the right hand side from memory.

I had a good look in the glovebox yesterday. Only the 12v connection.
I've seen a SD - PCMCIA adaptor on amazon. I presume that this will be my only option?

Sounds like it to me. Worth a try if not too expensive.

Thanks for all of your help.
I have managed to resolve this by means of a SD card and SD/PCMCIA adaptor.
However, I am experiencing issues when loading albums onto the music register. It seems that it is impossible to load an album onto the hard drive without experiencing numerous `skips' or `misses' during playback. Sometimes the track just appears to jump, on other occasions there is an audible blip as the track skips slightly. The problem occurs on average three or four times per album.
I have tried loading albums individually, as well as in bulk. But have been unable to avoid such issues.
    Is this normal?
